Shop and Save Lives to Boot!
As you know, October is Women's Cancer Awareness month, and there is plenty of shopping to be done for treasures both fashionable and philanthropic.
One of the coolest items I've seen is Aquatalia by Marvin K's special edition Wasabi boot; the best-seller has been reimagined in rose ombre patent. Love these! Sleek-n-chic! Instant rainy-day-blues chaser! (I have them in black, but I may need to add to my stash...)
Marvin Krasnow (aka Marvin K, founder and creative director) has teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue to benefit the Key to the Cure program -- a percentage of sales will be donated to local organizations through the Entertainment Industry Foundations's Women's Cancer Research Fund. The rose ombre Wasabi boot (also available in grey, olive and berry; $285 per pair) is featured at Saks stores in New York City, Boston and Chicago.
Want to meet the man behind these must-have boots himself? Krasnow will be at Saks in NYC on October 16th from 5 to 7pm to help kick off Saks’ nationwide charity shopping weekend hosted by celebrity ambassador Gwyneth Paltrow.
PS
Looking for a gift that gives again and again? I still adore the Jiffy E-Steam travel steamer...

RE-POST -- TOO MANY ERRORS IN THE LAST
OK, so I've decided to serve unofficially as your Southern Campus emissary. Not long ago I wrote the following in reference to the Duke campus, after seeing the sleek boots posted above: "I've noticed leggings are in this year around campus, which is a sign of another year of furry boots... though the fashion-forward ought to be phasing those out by now, don't you agree? I mean, those Aquatalia must signal something to the Dukies." I am happy to report from my little station here at the Perkins Library that indeed a sleeker style boot is again fashionable on campus (assuming library-goers are a good sample). The weather's getting colder, and we are already seeing short (modestly so) skirts-with boots-slide into fashion while fall's skinny-jeans-and-flats fade out. Now, by "sleeker" I do not mean to imply shiny--just not thickly padded, like the ones we've seen in recent years. You still see some wool overflowing at the top, maybe some string ties along the boot, but we're definitely not seeking the Iditarod/fireplace lodge style one sees at those cheesy ski lodges, either. Too, we are seeing plain leather supplant suede. On the other end of Tobacco Road, the UNC Tarheels tend to be a bit more flamboyant in their fashions, and I may be there later in the week. I'll also expect to make stops at campuses in South Carolina, Mississippi, and perhaps beyond this winter, and I will be sure to check in with more interesting south campus material.
