There are some striking similarities between the First Family-elect and the legendary Kennedy family -- youth, energy, style, beauty, hope...but Michelle O is not merely Jackie O two-point-0.
Admittedly, when we first met Michelle on the campaign trail she did recycle myriad Jackie-isms -- the pearls, the flip, the sheath dress -- but she has since come into her own.
Michelle has become a fashion risk-taker, clearly evidenced by her much-debated dress choice on Election Night. She is also a modern mixer of high and low: she slips into head-to-toe J. Crew (left) as easily as she slips into a Thakoon runway frock (right).
She is a study in subtlety, yet she is far from a fashion wallflower. Her choices are bold but not loud, strong but still feminine. She is becoming a style icon -- quickly -- and stands poised to inspire a new generation of women.
Is the Obama White House going to be the new Camelot? Perhaps. However the queen of the castle is undoubtedly going to rewrite her own fashion history.
On this week's edition of "Inside In Style" on CNN.com, I caught up with PARIS accessories designer Deborah Moreland at the Warwick Hotel in New York City and got the dish on how brides should dress up their dresses. (Hint: the tiara is old news -- try a headwrap on for size to indulge your princess fantasy)
I caught up with the coolest DJs in town (and out of town) just before they played their set for the Tony Cohen show at New York Fashion Week...Fashion Week just wouldn't be Fashion Week without a little drama.
(Surely you recognize Leigh Lezark from Gap's fall ad campaign??)
The masterminds at InStyle.com have come up with the perfect pre-Election Day pasttime....fun with ELECTION HAIR! That's right, you can amuse yourself for hours (or even five weeks!) by uploading your picture into our wildly popular Hollywood Hair Makeover tool to see how "red" or "blue" suits you. Try on the Sarah, the Cindy, the Hillary and the Michelle.
CNN's Naamua Delaney and I tried a few on for size...and a chuckle.
Check out the clip (you'll also learn more about In Style's October cover girl, Meg Ryan!)
Betsey Johnson is the pop-culture princess of New York Fashion Week...not to mention the fashion industry's fountain of youth. I stopped by the celebration -- and spoke to some celebs -- just 10 minutes before Betsey's Spring 2009 runway show...
As always, Betsey ended her show with a running runway cartwheel...she admits she always practices the morning of the show. Pretty impressive for a grandmother of two !
Style Spy sends a huge XOXO to Betsey Johnson! SMOOCH!
I caught up with best buds Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala backstage before their William Rast show at Roseland Ballroom. Both handsome guys were feeling under the weather; Justin told me he felt like he had "swallowed twenty razor blades." Ouch! But, that didn't stop him from dishing out some good-natured teasing...
