Ferragamo Sunglasses: Sooo Last Year, Sooo Hot Now

Who cares if these shades are from Spring 2007?  Clearly not Madge or Angie, who were recently spotted sporting these Ferragamo sunglasses.

Madonna was spied wearing them on her way to the Kabbalah Center in New York City...

Lucky for us, these classics are still available at Ferragamo stores nationwide.

Spied: Clay Aiken With Chef Boyardee

What does Clay Aiken do on a Wednesday night?  Spamalot pub crawls?  American Idol reunion parties?  Nope.

Clay Aiken

Apparently, he goes grocery shopping...just like me.
(With his bodyguard...not just like me.)

That's right -- I ran into Clay last night at my local market.  The singing sensation -- and recent People cover boy -- was filling his basket with bananas and Chef Boyardee ravioli.  I asked him about his self-professed favorite (Breyers peach ice-cream), and he laughed and said, "I didn't get any.  I'm getting fat!"

Always friendly and always down-to-Earth, Aiken perused the store wearing jeans, an argyle sweater and sandals with socks.

Personal style is always best when spied in unexpected places.

Of Mice and Men: Marc Jacobs' Shoe of the Decade

Marc Jacobs' iconic "mouse" shoe is officially celebrating it's 10th, although the designer has offered countless charming and increasingly figurative incarnations during the decade.

Picture_11Picture_8Picture_5Picture_9Picture_12Picture_14

As a means of celebrating the shoe's icon status, Jacobs did what only Jacobs can do:  He masterminded a collaboration so brilliant that it ensures the (limited) anniversary edition will transcend mere icon status.

This shoe isn't a shoe -- it's art.

Jacobs enlisted the help of my most-revered urban artist, KAWS (aka Brian), to craft the latest mouse flat.  KAWS is known for his postmodern graffiti art, some of which resembles Mickey Mouse.  Thus, in addition to his automatic hip-factor, he is a man who knows mice.  Well played, Marc.

Picture_16Picture_18

Only 200 pairs of the black flats exist worldwide, and they are available immediatement at Paris' drool-inducing Colette.

Whether or not you collect KAWS pieces (like I do), I don't know that I would recommend wearing these shoes.  Just display them on your vanity or bookshelf, and keep the packaging should you ever want to auction them "MIB" on Ebay...or at Sotheby's.

Until now, my all-time favorite Marc Jacobs collaboration was with Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton.  I bought myself an original cherry blossom monogram bag and managed to get Mr. Murakami to sign it at a gallery opening (a "vintage" snapshot from the 2003 event with my apparently very serious and very scruffy friend Michael Taylor).

Picture_20_3

To my nearly uncontainable delight, he not only signed the bow-clad bag (pictured above!), but he DREW A PICTURE on the inside flap.  Needless to say, that bag doesn't get out much.  Who needs a retirement fund when you've got that baby stashed away?!

My weekend plans?  A visit to www.Colette.fr followed by a Vespa ride across the Williamsburg Bridge to track down the artist...and a signature

Reem Acra Sweeps the Red Carpet at the Emmys

Many of you already know that I'm a huge Reem Acra fan, but after checking out the Emmys, it's clear that many of Hollywood's red carpet standouts are also part of the club.

Acra has outfitted myriad celebrities in the past, but last night her designs bedecked not one, not two, but FIVE stylish stars.

Christina Applegate stepped out in an asymmetrical pale aqua, silk organza, jacquard draped gown fresh from the Spring 2009 Collection.

"Desperate Housewives'" Felicity Huffman's newly-cropped bob added extra flair to her gorgeous embroidered and beaded pale peach tulle floor-length gown.

The dazzling Olivia Wilde of "House" made jaws drop in a pearl grey, silk satin-faced chiffon twist-front gown with jewel encrusted cap-sleeves.  The fit was flawless...

Outstanding Drama Series nominee, Julie Benz of "Dexter," looked like royalty in a deep purple, embroidered-waist gown from Acra's 2009 resort collection; actress Lisa Rinna also found her knockout number from the resort collection, and channeled her inner goddess in a one-shoulder, ivory crepe gown.

As always, Acra had a distinct aesthetic in mind when dressing these women:

"At this year's Emmys my designs blended a Parisian sense of elegance and fine tailoring with iconic Hollywood glamour. The result is a look of 'Hollywood Couture' that offered an edge and freshness to the red carpet." --Reem Acra

You know you're an A+-lister when you score a dress straight of a designer's runway the week after it debuted.  Renee Zellweger is one of those lucky gals.

Blair's Bike Proves Worthy Pedigree

Retro cruisers are devastatingly chic...especially when they have designer labels and are attached to GG's Blair Waldorf (the lovely Leighton Meester).

Just Asking: Does Obama Heart Chanel?!

I'm not stumping, but I am stumped...or at least fascinated.

Chanel's Classic No. 5Senator Barack Obama calls for CHANGE...CHANEL style

Senator Barack Obama calls for CHANGE...CHANEL styleChanel's Classic No. 5

The typeface used for Senator Barack Obama's CHANGE campaign signs has been widely discussed by design blogs and news magazines, but no one has yet to point out the remarkable similarity the CHANGE logo bears to the iconic CHANEL typeface.  So let me be the first...

Obama's Vision of CHANGE

CHANEL's Vision of a Classic

I'm not referring to the trademarked interlocking C's, of course, but rather to the typeface used by the fashion house when the Chanel name is spelled out.

As mentioned, I'm not the first to put the font discussion out there.  Back in February, Newsweek.com identified Obama's font as Gotham and delved into the finer points of campaign branding.  In their May issue, GQ magazine proudly quoted the Newsweek.com article and reiterated the claim that the Gotham typeface was first created for their men's monthly.  Simple, uncontrived and classic, the Gotham aesthetic has understandably become popular.

Yet every time I see Obama's "CHAN.."  my pulse quickens.

This has nothing to do with my political views; it's purely Pavlovian.  When a fashionphile sees a Chanel logo (or a Chanel-esque logo), her drool reflex kicks in.  Or she at least does a double take, particularly when said logo isn't attached to a quilted handbag but to a podium.

I sent an email query to Senator Obama's campaign headquarters, but as of post time I had not received a response.   I'm pretty sure they're busy with more pressing matters, so I'll let them off the hook.

What are your thoughts?  Do other fashion-loving voters have such visceral reactions?!  Fashionable voters want to know!
